Day
after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me.
But
let the Scriptures be fulfilled.” And they all left him and fled.
(Mark 14:49-50 ESV)
The time had come and Judas came
with soldiers to arrest Jesus. And just as Jesus said would happen; the
disciples all fled. Jesus was in his darkest moment. He had spent 3 years
teaching and sharing his life with his disciples. One betrayed him and the rest
fled at his arrest. He was completely deserted from his disciples.
The sadness and feeling of loss
when we are let down by loved ones can be so unbearable. The people we trust
the most turn on us and hurt us. When we face difficulty and trials they may disappoint
us and we can feel completely alone. Jesus knows how this feels. As he faced
the most difficult time of his earthly life he was deserted by his closest
friends. Jesus knows what this is like more than we can even imagine!
So the next time you feel disappointed
in a loved one’s actions, words, or lack of support remember Jesus’ arrest. He
knows exactly how you feel and he promises to always be with us. You are not
alone! Jesus is with you and cares for you and will always support you. With
Jesus by your side you can face anything. Will you file this truth away and
remember his steadfast love for you when you are saddened and disappointed by
lack of love and support of a loved one?
