(Psalm 119:16 ESV)
The end of the year is very near. We usually end the year and begin the new year with a new years resolution, or maybe just an awareness that you would like to try something new. I have a Bible study tip that was given to me several years ago from a very wise Bible teacher. She was an inspiration in many ways, but this one particular tip I saw her take part it made me at the very least file into the back of my mind. I have this year just started putting it into practice and I think it is a great way to study the Word.
The Bible study tip involves marking up your Bible, so I hope that is something you are comfortable about doing. I didn't take part in this for some time because I wanted to find just the right Bible that I would keep for years to come. I finally got a journal Bible for my birthday this year and decided it was time to try this Bible study tool out. I have always found it helpful to mark up your Bible with short notes when a good point is made in a sermon, but lacked very much room to do so. Now I have this journal Bible that gives me the room I need to make my notes.
But that is not my tip! My tip is to highlight certain things as you study. I highlight with three different colors depending on what I highlight. I mark yellow any scripture that gives an attribute or characteristic of God.
I mark green any scripture that describes a command of God. Finally I mark in blue any promises of God. This helps your Bible stand out on what is in your Bible, it also makes it look pretty interesting. So if you want some color and precision in your Bible study give this tip a try!
