God is God Alone

“Turn to me and be saved,
all the ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
(Isaiah 45:22 ESV)

There is no other God, but God! We try to make gods that suite us. We like to focus on how God is love but ignore any other aspect of God we don't like. When we do this we create an imaginary god, which is really an idol. It may not be made with human hands out of wood like people did in the Old Testament, but instead we form an image of God in our minds that we like better than the true God. A god that is comfortable and only wants to love us and ignore any obvious sins that we have.

As I finished up my study on the book of Mark I was trying to decide where to go next in my personal study. I have used this blog as a way to keep me accountable to stay in the Word and to hopefully enrich the lives of those who find and read it in the internet world. I had thought about starting a new book study in the Old Testament. Perhaps one of the Minor Prophets would be a good place to go next after studying the book of Mark, but I have been led in another direction. I have been considering doing an in-depth study on the attributes of God. And with the new year I have come to the conclusion that it would be a good time to begin a study on God himself.

We will look at the attributes we love to love about God and we will also look at the attributes of God that we like to ignore. God has revealed who He is in His Word, and it is a very wise thing to get to know who God is and what that means to us in our daily life. So next week I will begin looking at on attribute at a time for a week or two and consider who God is and how that aspect of his character makes a difference in our day to day life. As you read and contemplate my findings I hope you will experience God, the true God, and what each attribute means to you as well!
