Let There Be Light

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
(Genesis 1:3 ESV)

I absolutely love the fact that creation is so simple and God is so mighty. He did not build creation with his hands like we would build a house. No, God built the world through his spoken Word. If that doesn't  tell you how powerful and awesome he is I don’t know what will! God said, “Let there be” and it was so. This reminds me of how Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. He merely told Lazarus to come out of the grave and he did.  What power God has that he merely speaks the Word and it comes to pass!

On day one of creation God made light, but it wasn't until the fourth day that God created the sun, moon and stars to give off this light. This is so incredible. If we want to make a light we must first make something that will give us light. We build a fire for light. We make a flashlight or a lamp to give out light before we actually have light, but God makes the light three days before he makes the objects to give off this light!

There will be a time that we once again will have this light without the moon, sun and stars. In Revelation God tells us this.
And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. (Revelation 21:23 ESV)

One day Jesus will be our only source of light. It will be the most beautiful light!
How is the light of Jesus illuminating your life today? One day we will have the physical light of Jesus as our only source of light but for now we have it spiritually in his person and through his Word we have the light of Jesus in our life. How does knowing the perfect light come straight from God give you hope? In what situation do you need this light to shine brightly today?
