The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
(Deuteronomy 29:29 ESV)
We don't know it all. None of us should be surprised by that. God has secrets that he has not revealed to us. Perhaps it is because in our finite state we can't comprehend the secret things. Whatever the reason is we can only know what God chooses to reveal to us.
God is so huge and beyond description that even if he did reveal all of who he is we still would not be able to comprehend him. We are told that one day when we are in heaven we will see Jesus face to face and see him as he is. What a wonderful day that will be!
If God were completely knowable, today in our finite state, he wouldn't be God. We are blessed that God would communicate to us in ways that we can understand so that we can learn some things about God. We can spend our days reading the Bible from cover to cover and always learn something new about him and his character.
Studying to know God is a worthy pursuit but it will never be complete. How does this truth give you comfort in God? How will you spend your days getting to know him better?
